How Do I Love Thee? ©

December 5, 2010

How do I love thee my love I love?
I love thee as birds do love the sky
They pierce it with their thrilling cry,
I love thee as fish do love the sea
Surrounding their scales with it’s salty melee.

How do I love thee my love I love?
I love thee as bee’s do love flowers in bloom
Surrenders sweet nectar and lifting the gloom,
I love thee as flowers the sun might love
They lift their bright heads to it’s beams above.

How do I love thee my love I love?
I love thee as dry earth must love the rain
And long for it’s kisses to fall down again,
I love thee as bats do love the night
They plunge to it’s depths in their featherless flight.

How do I love thee my love I love?
I love thee unbidden, my heart you have won
I knew when this new beat so fast had begun,
I love thee all over each hair, each pore
I feel your tide rise to my waiting shore,
You come as my sky, my flower, my sea
you come as my sun, night and rain for me.
